When Sue, a physician at a hospital approximately 50 miles away, found out she had breast cancer, she knew which doctor she wanted to see. She drove almost an hour away to seek treatment from Sabet Siddiqui, MD, an oncologist at Kishwaukee Cancer Care Center.
Dr. Siddiqui coordinated care with physicians at Mayo Clinic to find the most cutting edge therapy to treat Sue’s breast cancer. A collaborative decision was made to place Sue on traditional chemotherapy with the addition of Herceptin. At the time, Herceptin was being used to treat only cancers that had metastasized, or spread to other areas of the body, which was not the case for Sue.
Sue continued this unconventional therapy with Herceptin for two years under the supervision of Dr. Siddiqui and the physicians at Mayo Clinic.
Sue’s breast cancer is gone.
