Sarah was 42 years old when she started having heavy, irregular bleeding. It was so heavy that it was causing her to become dizzy. She was eventually diagnosed as anemic. In need of a solution, Sarah made an appointment with Radha Krishna Upputuri, MD, an Ob/Gyn physician on staff at Kishwaukee Community Hospital (KCH). Dr. Upputuri determined that a hysterectomy was the best option for Sarah.
Dr. Upputuri performed a laparoscopic hysterectomy, which requires only three very small incisions, the largest being one centimeter. Through these small incisions, a camera is used to view the uterus, tubes and ovaries. Laparoscopic instruments are then used to detach the uterus from the inside of a woman’s body. Contrary to traditional hysterectomy procedures, healing time with a laparoscopic hysterectomy procedure is very minimal and surgical complications are greatly reduced.
